IT'S THE LAW- FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

Burning permits may be obtained from the Town Office during business hours or from the Fire Department between 4PM and 5PM on Saturday, Sunday & holidays.

Permits will be issued only to the property owner.  Property owners may designate in writing, a specific individual to apply for a permit on their behalf that can be kept on file (for each calendar year).  Be aware that the Town Office and the Fire Department will each need a letter from the property owner.  It is the property owners’ responsibility to withdraw this permission should it no longer be in affect.  Please keep in mind burning permits have to be applied for each and every day burning is to occur.

Permits are required for all burning with the exception when there is at least two inches of complete snow coverage.  ONLY in this circumstance is a paper permit not required to be obtained by the property owner. You still need to call MACC base before burning, see below.

PRIOR TO BURNING property owners or their designee are required to call the Milford Area Communication Center (MACC base) at 673-1414 to notify them of burning.

***You should be aware of this information***
What You Can Burn and When

Only leaves, woody debris or brush less than 5 inches in diameter, or untreated wood and dimension lumber can be burned. For any open burning a written fire permit is required. Even with the permit, no open burning between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm unless it is raining.

Air quality regulations restrict the type of material burned in the open. Stumps, painted or treated lumber, tires, tubes, plastics, foam rubber and shingles are some of the prohibited materials.

Gas grills or charcoal fires in a container up and off the ground on your own property do not require a fire permit.

Do you have one of these?

If you intend to use one of these, something similar or a traditional pit in the ground then you need to obtain a Fire permit.

You need to be aware of the surface it is placed upon and the distance of a minimum of 25 feet away from any other structure is required!
