MEETING FOR APRIL 27, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.. Present were Stanley Young, Michael Dell'Orto, Corinne Blagbrough, Phyllis Tallarico, Dan Donovan and Nancy Clark.
The minutes from the March 22 meeting were corrected to reflect the correct spelling of the name of Building Inspector Bill Condra. A previously noted discrepancy in the Town Report relating to the Heritage Commission's appropriations was explained. The electrician who wired the Historic Society rooms for the new computer was paid twice and the matter has been corrected. The minutes were approved.
Michael Dell'Orto reported that he spoke to property abutters Len Peterson and Laurie Burgoine, informing them of the Heritage Commission's plans to erect a new historic marker in Wilton Center. The Heritage Commission will also notify the Unitarian Prudential Committee about the sign. Further interest was expressed in identifying the Town Pound with another historic marker.
The ongoing program of scanning town documents and photographs was discussed. Material will be put on the Historic Commission's page on the town web site to let the public know what the Heritage Commission is doing. It was discussed where to to begin scanning for there is a wealth of material to be included. It was suggested the Revolutionary War documents would be a likely place to start and of particular interest to the public.
The Historic House Plaque reminders were sent to householders who had not responded to the first mailing. A receipt for postage was submitted to the Treasurer.
Heritage Commission members Stanley Young and Michael Dell'Orto reported they had attended the New Hampshire Old House and Barn meeting. A brief discussion on the original uses of shutters on old houses ensued.
Briefly discussed was the scenic road issue, particularly in re: Marden Road.
Main Street's plans for renovation of the downtown were discussed. A rumored report of an intention to do away with the traffic dummy (rumor quashed) led to the observation that the traffic dummy might be restored to its former appearance with fresh paint and the reinstallation of a blinking light. However, there are as yet no firm redesign plans. That part of the project will begin in July and Dan Donovan recommended that the Heritage Commission consult with the Main Street design committee early on in the progress to determine where the Heritage Commission's plaques will fit into the scheme of things. Commission members were directed to think about how many signs will be needed, and where they will go and what they will say.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30
p.m..
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Clark, Secretary.
