MINUTES FOR DEC. 27, 2005
The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 7:30 pm at the Wilton Public Library. Present were Stanley Young, Phyllis Tallarico, Michael Dell'Orto, Jessie Salisbury and Nancy Clark.
The November minutes were read and approved.
The Treasurer's report showed a balance of $154 remaining in the account.
Stanley reported on the status of the historic signs. The Davisville sign has been submitted to Bob Leonard who proposed to reproduce the existing signs which are beyond reasonable repair. The Town Pound sign, with the agreed upon wording, has been ordered. Work will proceed with the drafting of the texts of the Davisville and West Wilton signs.
As for the documentation project -- the first box of Town Warrants (1775-1792) has been scanned and work on the second box will resume in the spring when the Historic Rooms are warmer.
Several future projects were discussed: 1) Putting the Town
Hall on the National Register of Historic Places. 2) Proposing an
ordinance for the preservation of stone walls, after researching other
towns' ordinances. 3) Consider further signs for the town's
cemeteries. 4) Proposal of a long-term project, in concert with the
Natural Resource Commission, for commemorating Carnival Hill. This
may take the form of building a display kiosk for Carnival Hill memorabilia
or possibly
moving an old schoolhouse to the site and restoring it to serve as
a warming house for skaters as well as providing display space.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Clark, Secretary.
