WILTON HERITAGE COMMISSION
MINUTES FOR NOVEMBER 24, 20009

The November 24 meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. at the Wilton  Public and Gregg Free Library.  Present were Stanley Young, David Potter, Michael Dell’Orto, and Nancy Clark.

The October minutes were read and approved.  The Treasurer reported no money had been spent from the town account. He noted that there is a balance of $348.97 in the private account.

Stanley drew everyone’s attention to the display at Town Hall detailing the history of the Whiting House.  He noted Michael Dell’Orto had done his usual skillful job of blending photographs and text to tell a story.

Three copies of the documents relating to the Town Hall’s placement on the National Register have been lodged at the library, Town Hall, and in the Historical Society’s collection.

Stanley formally presented the HC’s budget request for 2010 to the Budget Committee. He is asking for $700, which will mostly go for signs.  Signs for Lot 48, lower downtown, and Carnival Hill are planned.

A letter has been sent to the county commissioners describing the Heritage Commission’s interest in the Old County Farm Cemetery.  The Heritage Commission will also notify the town that this has been done.

Stanley observed that a working party got off to a good start in cleaning up the Old County Cemetery on Nov. 21. There is still work to be done.  Dec. 12 was proposed as the next day to revisit the cemetery – but this was subsequently cancelled because of snow.

The Lot 48 display kiosk is still in the works.

The election of officers was discussed.  No one is quite clear whether there are term limits.  The bylaws are going to be located and consulted.

David asked whether the cemetery trustees plan to repair any of the stones. Stanley said some repairs have been made although he was not sure in which cemetery. This will be looked into.

The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Clark, Secretary.
